SCARRING - MEDICAL INTERVENTION
At Skindepth Perth, we take a structured and evidence-based approach to acne scarring. No two scars are the same, which is why we assess scar type, depth, skin quality and overall treatment goals before designing a personalised plan. Rather than relying on a single modality, we combine advanced techniques that target the underlying cause of the scar — whether that’s deep tissue tethering, collagen loss, or sharply defined atrophic defects.
TCA CROSS
TCA Cross is a specialised treatment used for deep acne scars known as ice pick scars. Ice pick scars are a type of atrophic (depressed) scarring that extend deep into the skin, making them difficult to treat with most standard resurfacing treatments.
During the procedure, a highly concentrated form of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is carefully applied directly into each individual scar using a very fine applicator. This targeted approach allows the treatment to reach the full depth of the scar.
After application, the treated area will temporarily turn white (a process known as frosting). Over the following days, the area will darken and form a small scab, which then naturally sheds. As the skin heals, new collagen is stimulated, resulting in a smoother appearance and a visibly shallower ice pick scar.
SUBCISION
Subcision is a technique used in the dermatologic surgical management of acne scarring. It is a minimally invasive procedure designed to improve depressed acne scars caused by fibrous bands pulling the skin downward. By carefully releasing these tethered scars beneath the surface to breakout scar tissue, while body’s natural collagen production is stimulated to improve texture over time. This treatment works best for rolling and certain boxcar scars, with results developing gradually over several weeks as the skin heals.
