The Research

Acidic skin pH plays a critical role in optimising cellular differentiation (cellular function), desquamation (cell turnover) and the synthesis of vital skin lipids.

Environmental skin damage caused by the sun, pollution and temperature extremes results in skin pH shifting from acidic to alkaline. This can cause the downregulation of enzymes vital to barrier lipid synthesis and connective tissue regeneration (collagen and elastin).

The outcome of this is the typical pathology of premature ageing, including dryness, sensitivity, pigmentation and skin laxness.

Topical application of hydroxy acids can recalibrate skin pH back to a desirable acidic levels, refining texture, smoothness, hydration, tone and clarity.
